Cherotich and Chepchirchir lead Kenyan line-up in Paris Diamond League

Nine Kenyan athletes are in action tonight at the Paris leg of the 2025 Diamond League, with Faith Cherotich, Nelly Chepchirchir, and Julius Yego among the headliners looking to deliver standout performances.

Nine Kenyan athletes will take to the track and field at the Charléty Stadium in Paris tonight as the 2025 Diamond League enters its eighth leg.

Faith Cherotich, the 19-year-old steeplechase standout, headlines the Kenyan contingent in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase at 10:23 PM EAT. After wins in Rabat and Oslo, she faces a strong field that includes Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai and Ethiopia’s Lomi Muleta and Sembo Almayew. Cherotich will be aiming to reclaim the world lead currently held by compatriot Doris Lemngole (8:58.15). Caren Chebet will serve as the race pacemaker.

In the women’s 1,500m at 11:50 PM EAT, Nelly Chepchirchir returns after back-to-back victories in Doha and Rabat. She will be joined by Olympian Susan Ejore, who is looking to bounce back from a disappointing finish in Rome. The race also features World Indoor silver medallist Jemma Reekie, Georgia Bell—who recently defeated Mary Moraa—and Ethiopian teenager Birke Haylom.

Julius Yego, the 2015 world javelin champion, will continue his season in the men’s javelin after throwing 83.08m in Finland earlier this week. He will compete against Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and European champion Julian Weber.

In the men’s 800m, set for 10:15 PM EAT, Wycliffe Kinyamal returns after a challenging outing in Stockholm. He currently ranks fourth in the Diamond League standings. Fellow Kenyan Nicholas Kiplangat will also feature in the race alongside France’s Gabriel Tual and Australia’s Josh Hoey.

Elsewhere, Abel Kipsang, Phanuel Kipkosgei, and Festus Lagat will run in the non-Diamond League men’s 1,500m, while Jacob Krop will represent Kenya in a competitive men’s 5,000m field.
